Cal Fire reminds public that fireworks are illegal in El Dorado County

All fireworks, including safe and sane fireworks, are illegal in El Dorado County.

“El Dorado County local ordinance #8.08.050 forbids the use and possession of “safe and sane” fireworks commonly sold in surrounding areas like Sacramento because of the risk of wildfires,” Cal Fire Unit Chief Kelly Keenan of the Amador-El Dorado-Sacramento Unit stated in a press release. “Every year CAL FIRE responds to wildland fires caused by safe and sane fireworks, putting people’s lives and property in jeopardy.

“There is ‘zero tolerance’ when it comes to the use or possession of fireworks in El Dorado County by CAL FIRE, local fire districts and the local law enforcement agencies. I urge you to please play by the rules and set the best example for your family and neighbors and don’t buy fireworks and bring them into this county. If you do and you get caught, not only will your fireworks be confiscated, you may be cited, facing misdemeanor charges that include up to six months in jail or a $500 fine or both.”

Instead, the public is encouraged to attend events and shows such as Lights on the Lake.
