Local food and drinks pair up at Sample the Sierra

Live music, local artisans and a far-reaching array of wine and food pairings at the 4th Annual Sample the Sierra festival will make for a delectable Labor Day at the South Shore,

South Lake Tahoe’s only farm-to-fork event, Sample the Sierra allows area farmers, chefs and winemakers to put their wares on display. Sixteen chefs or restaurants will partner with one of 16 wineries, breweries or distilleries in tasting tents featuring a food and beverage pairing. Food ingredients have been donated by 16 area growers and producers.

Guests can also browse locally made goods such as jam, soap, honey and olive oil alongside specialty products created in El Dorado County, including fine art, jewelry and crafts.

Bringing an element of competition to the festival, the Sierra Chef Challenge will place two top chefs on stage to battle it out in a creative culinary challenge. Each chef will be presented with a mystery box of ingredients and will have 45 minutes to entertain the crowd while creating an impromptu dish.

Local bands will provide live music throughout the afternoon.

“A collaborative effort between and El Dorado County, Sample the Sierra celebrates the bounty and the heritage of the Sierra Nevada region,” according to the event’s website. “The festival aims to build flourishing partnerships within the County as well as promoting its geotourism assets.”
