Z-Man brings Bay Area hip-hop to South Lake Tahoe

Rapper Z-Man will bring a taste of the Bay Area’s Hieroglyphics crew to the South Shore this week.

The rapper is affiliated with the long-standing Oakland hip-hop collective and is a member of One Block Radius, a trio that saw some commercial success with their 2008 debut, after years of individual and independent efforts.

The single “You Got Me” was played on more than 190 radio stations.

The group has an eclectic taste in music, to say the least.

“If you HAD to describe the (One Block Radius) sound, it would probably sound like if Steve Winwood, Hall & Oates, Earth Wind and Fire and David Bowie listened to some Sublime, The Pharcyde and Tribe Called Quest, got high and made an album on an SP1200,” according to the group’s website. “It’s a different sound — and that’s just how they like it! One Block Radius is finally doing it right and the sky is the limit.”

As for Z-Man himself, he released a solo album, “California Brainwashed,” in September.

“90’s mob turf music sums it up,” Z-man wrote in a Facebook post promoting the album. “I’m from the ‘88 era where hip hop music was hungry young and lively,” according to the page.

Longtime Bay Area DJ, DJ True Justice, joins Z-Man next week.
