Day of the Dead at North Shore

Lakeside Pizza in Tahoe City will host a “Late but not forgotten Day of the Dead Party” Friday with live music from Peter Joseph Burtt and the King Tide and DJ Chango

The event will include a raffle, as well as prizes for best Day of the Dead costume and makeup.

Burtt and the King Tide draw on soul, blues and R&B influences while highlighting Burtt’s interest in African instruments.

“It’s crazy, Peter plays a kora, an instrument from Gambia, West Africa,” band member Zebuel Early told Lake Tahoe Action last month. “It kind of has that instrumentation from Africa, but it’s really more of a soul band than anything else.”

Lake Tahoe’s DJ Chango will also perform at the event.

The house music DJ uses his natural surroundings as a catalyst for his creative energy, according to a profile on 101.5 FM Truckee Tahoe Radio’s website.

“Be prepared to be embraced by warm bass lines and heavy house grooves as he takes you on his musical journey,” according to the profile. “Chango has shared the stage with such musical legends as; Fort Knox Five, Rick Preston, Galen, Jon Lemmon, E.B.E and many more.”

Friday’s event is all ages and will include art by local students and salvaged artists, according to a flier for the event. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the North Tahoe Family Resource Center.
