Former King of the Kottonmouth raps at the South Shore

A former Kottonmouth King brings his headlining tour to the South Shore this weekend.

Johnny Richter was the frontman of Orange County hip-hop group Kottonmouth Kings until earlier this year, when he announced he was splitting from the nearly 20-year-old act.

“I’ve been working on new material and am booking shows for December in support of my new project,” Richter wrote on his Facebook page while announcing the split. “I’ve always had and continue to have mad love and respect for the fans that have supported me and KMK all these years. I can’t wait to share and play my new music with all of you now and for many years to come and am truly excited to start a new chapter.”

Richter is set to release a solo album “FreeKING Out” in early 2014, according to an email from promoters.

“After breaking away from his former cohorts, Richter set up shop at DJ MUGGS’ legendary MGS Sound Lab Studios in Burbank, CA to record some smoking new solo joints,” according to an email from promoters. “Under the watchful eye of the Soul Assassins producer and engineer G-ROCKA, Richter unloaded some truly ferocious rhymes when unleashed in the studio. Drawing from a palette of good, bad, and ugly personal experiences, Richter is in full attack mode on the ‘FreeKING Out’ EP.”

Los Angeles artist Sozay, as well as Tip-C and Deeday open Saturday’s show.
