Shred for Sushi brings rail jam to South Shore

Sushi Pier Tahoe and On Course Events have come together for a third year to produce the Shred for Sushi rail jam.

The event takes place at the South Shore Thursday.

The competition is open to skiers, snowboarders, men, women and kids. Registration costs $15 and runs from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on the day of the event. The rail jam also includes a DJ, ski and snowboard movies, raffle prizes and local vendors.

Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit SOS Outreach, a non-profit organization that helps build character in youths through outdoor adventure, according to organizers.

“SOS Outreach, founded and headquartered in Colorado’s Vail Valley, is a national youth development nonprofit utilizing outdoor experiential learning to inspire positive decision making for healthy and successful lives,” according to a press release from organization. “Every SOS program incorporates the five core values of courage, discipline, integrity, wisdom, and compassion. SOS mentors help students define and practice these core values as they provide a consistent adult presence for students who may not otherwise have a positive role model in their lives. Targeting kids with poor grades, low attendance and behavioral issues, SOS intervenes in situations that typically lead to high school dropout.”
