Burglars hit home in Round Hill Village

Burglars who ransacked a home on Paiute Drive in Round Hill Village made off with an estimated $15,000 to $20,000 in cash, collectible coins, silver and assorted jewelry.

A digital camera and personal documents including birth certificates, passports and Social Security numbers were also reported stolen.

A newspaper carrier reported seeing the home’s front door left open for a second day to neighbors who reported it to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday, Dec. 28.

Deputies cleared the home and made contact with its owners who were in San Diego at the time.

The thief or thieves reportedly pried open the front door as well as locked doors to an office and master bedroom inside, causing an estimated $1,200 in damage, according a sheriff’s office report.

Four 2-foot-by-2-foot safes weighing an estimated 200 pounds were stolen from the home. They contained the cash, coins, vials of silver dollars, jewelry and personal documents.

The incident remains under investigation.
