Whittell High School announced its winners this year for the prestigious Scholastic Art competition.

It is the 91st year of the Scholastic Art Awards, which is open to all students in seventh to 12th grades and is the longest running recognition program for young people in the United States.

Participants create and submit their best works of art, which are reviewed by a panel of art professionals for originality, technical skills and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.

In the Northern Nevada region 1,1319 works of art were reviewed and 509 will be awarded in a ceremony on March 21, at the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno. Gold Key winners go on to the national competition.
