Good Samaritans Safe Ride Program will kick off its annual raffle ticket sales at the car, truck and motorcycle show May 22 to 25 by the Heavenly Village Gondola.

The 30-year raffle package includes a restored 1957 Chevy Pickup, with a restored 1960 Cushman scooter in the back, pulling a 1963 Lil Loafer vintage Camper and all the camping stuff inside. One person will win all three vehicles and the winner need not be present to win.

The International Good Samaritans Safe Ride Program was started to provide teams of sober designated drivers to be on-call to respond to any calls from intoxicated drivers, their friends or concerned bartenders.

According to Tom Argo, “It was quickly realized that this safe ride service needed to be free, because many intoxicated people didn’t want to go home until they were out of money, and that we needed to get their cars home, too.”

The Good Samaritans Safe Ride Program is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity that provides two sober drivers per team, one driver to follow the other Good Samaritans Safe Ride Program driver in the intoxicated driver’s car along with the intoxicated person.

During the first 10 years of service more than 50,000 documented safe rides were given to intoxicated people, and their cars were safely delivered home by a small group of sober volunteers, according to Argo.
