Letter: Loop Road ‘humbug’

On May 4, Carl Hasty’s guest opinion appeared in the Tribune. Again he was cheerleading for the Loop Road. And again he claimed the Loop Road would create great new things; more business, new housing, etc. — a boom, a much needed revitalization. Of course, it is humbug based on speculation.

It is the same old jive. The promises made for redevelopment at Stateline, which became the local joke called the hole. It has been a bust.

Hasty claims that as the “project moves through environmental review process, it is sending a message of support from local government …”

If he is speaking about the city council, that is news because the council has not voted on the project. So how does he know what the council will decide? The claim is humbug. And it appears Hasty knows the environmental review report will be negative. No harm done, full steam ahead.

Carl Hasty is a carnival barker — he has to keep on humbugging. The show must go on because Tahoe Transportation District has decided to have its way come hell or high water. Its parent, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, must not fail. Its life depends on “success.” But regardless of what happens to the Loop Road, Carl Hasty will draw his pay.
