Wa She Shu It'Deh festival to take place

The Wa She Shu It’Deh festival will be held this weekend at Valhalla.

The festival is the 23rd annual Native American arts festival and will feature native arts and crafts, food vendors, a basket competition, raffle prizes and dance and drum performances.

A basket weaving competition will be held Saturday. There are fourteen different categories. Submissions will be accepted Saturday between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Weavers must be Native Americans enrolled with a recognized tribe. Artists must be present to win. The winner of each category will receive $100 and the winner of best in show will receive $300.

The festival is sponsored by the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California in cooperation with the Tahoe Tallac Association and the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. Admission and parking are free.
