Austin’s House is a small, private nonprofit agency which provides emergency shelter and compassionate care to children ages 0 to 18 who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect.
Built through a collaborative community effort, Austin’s House has cared for more than 300 children of all ages since its opening in late 2007. In the past year, the average stay for a child at Austin’s House was 50 days, with children staying from 1 to 140 days.
When children arrive at Austin’s House, the organization’s top focus is to meet the immediate needs of the child in terms of shelter, food, clothing and emotional support. All school-age children at Austin’s House are enrolled in school, and whenever possible they remain in the school they attended before being placed at Austin’s. Austin’s house also coordinates the children’s needs in terms of medical, dental, vision and mental health.
Austin’s House is so grateful for the continued support of Vail Resorts Echo, through both their grant and in-kind donations to our annual fundraiser. VR Echo’s donations equal nearly three months worth of grocery bills — thank you!
In addition to VR Echo, Austin’s House relies on the support of the community to continue its mission, and there are many ways to help. The annual Poker Run will be held Saturday, Sept. 7. Visit www.austinshouse.org for more information. Additionally, the annual children’s art calendar will go on sale Oct. 1 and there is still time for businesses or individuals to purchase a sponsorship for $250. If you are interested in a sponsorship in this year’s calendar, contact me at 267-6711. Lastly, Austin’s House loves giving tours of our beautiful facility and presentations to local groups, so please call if you’d like to hear more about Austin’s House.
— Corporate sustainability has always been fundamental for Kirkwood and Heavenly Mountain Resorts and their parent company, Vail Resorts. Through Vail Resorts Echo, our sustainability program, we hope to connect our communities to our efforts - from on the ground conservation programs to grants for local schools. Aimed at both protecting the natural resources that surround the resorts and helping build stronger communities where our employees live and work, Vail Resorts Echo encompasses three core efforts: environmental stewardship, charitable giving and community engagement.
