Workshop focuses on airport master plan

The public is invited to learn more about an airport master plan for South Lake Tahoe Airport and share their opinions about the facility’s future.

The public workshop starts at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 1901 Airport Road.

“We’ll have a presentation in council chambers, then we’ll have stations in the foyer where people can go station to station to address environmental impacts, noise concerns and benefits to the community,” Councilwoman JoAnn Conner said.

One aspect of the master plan looks at the feasibility of restoring commercial service to the airport. That could bring additional economic development and revenue to a city asset that has required about $400,000 per year in subsidies from the city’s general fund.

“The major thing we’ll address with the public is do you want us to bring commercial flights back in,” Conner said.

“We’re trying to get the citizens to tell us what they think, what they want. The city is trying to get that involvement before something is done.”
