Lake Tahoe Golf Course named Groundwater Guardian Green Site

Lake Tahoe Golf Course was recently named a 2014 Groundwater Guardian Green Site by The Groundwater Foundation in recognition of its groundwater and environmental stewardship. Lake Tahoe Golf Course earned the designation based on its current practices related to water use, pesticide and fertilizer management, and pollution prevention.

The Groundwater Guardian Green Site program recognizes green spaces — like golf courses; ball fields; educational campuses; natural areas; and residential, recreational, and office parks — for implementing groundwater and surface water-friendly practices to maintain the site.

“Groundwater is the water we drink and the water that helps grow our food. It’s a vital resource that we all rely on in one way or another. We’re so pleased to recognize the positive steps that places like Lake Tahoe Golf Course are taking to ensure groundwater is protected now and for the future,” said Jane Griffin, Groundwater Foundation president.

Green space managers are encouraged to get involved in the Groundwater Guardian Green Site program by downloading the program application at, emailing, or calling 1-800-858-4844.
