Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care to hold open house

Tribune staff report

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care will hold its annual open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday.

This year’s open house will be a “virtual tour,” with each cage at the facility having a monitor outside so visitors can better see the wildlife inside.

The center, which has operated for 38 years, only allows the general public onto the grounds where wild birds and animals are rehabilitated once a year.

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care currently has two bear cubs, two red-tailed hawks, 15 raccoons, seven great-horned owls, a gray fox, a river otter and more.

Trained LTWC volunteers will be on hand to guide people through the grounds and describe the reasons the various wildlife are at LTWC, as well as the animals’ prognosis for their eventual release back to the wild. They will also show visitors where the new LTWC home will be and what some of the buildings will look like. Construction is set to begin this month on the new facility.

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care’s exiting location is at 1485 Cherry Hills Circle off of Elks Club Drive in Meyers.
