When one of the comics asked who would be appearing here next week I said,
He said, ³He¹s back on American soil?² Yep. Scott has taken comics overseas
some 60 times bringing laughter to the Middle East to entertain our troops
in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan. I was fortunate enough to be invited on one
of those tours performing with Scott (who hosted) and Graham Elwood.
Scott is a big guy that you can hide behind which is one of the reasons I
went over there. OK, that and because both my niece and nephew are in the
military serving in Afghanistan (my nephew, Travis had tours in Iraq before
that). It¹s been estimated that Scott has entertained close to 75,000
military personnel over the past eight or nine years he¹s been going over
there. Scott also performs with comics at other military installations
around the world not just in war zones.
For Scott being around (and serving) in military environments is nothing
new. During his younger years he attended the New Mexico Military Institute.
Before that he played football in Lubbock, Texas during his high school
years and still looks like he could be a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys.
Come to think of it this probably served him well when he first took up
comedy as a career performing on stage but instead of crowds in the
bleachers had comedy patrons in a club setting.
Scott has been on Comedy Central¹s Premium Blend and his half-hour special,
³Comedy Central Presents: Scott Kennedy,² still airs. He was also the
featured performer at HBO¹s US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado and
performed at Montreal¹s Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. It¹ll be a nice
mix having Scott up here with Carlie & Doni during Gay & Lesbian Ski Week.
