Suspected gang member arrested on drug, battery charges

South Lake Tahoe police arrested a suspected Norteño gang member Sunday for allegedly choking a woman and possessing more than 20 grams of cocaine for sale.

Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez, 20, of South Lake Tahoe, was arrested after South Lake Tahoe officers Jake Herminghaus and Ray Poole responded to a report of a battery on Blackwood Avenue about 4 p.m. Sunday and contacted the female victim of the attack, according to police.

The woman told police that, during an argument about Rodriguez having cocaine in the residence, he pushed her down on a bed, held her down with his hands around her throat, according to a Monday statement from the city.

A child in the home called 911. Rodriguez then left the home with his toddler, according to the statement.

The victim of the attack turned over 20.6 grams of cocaine, allegedly Rodriguez’s, to police. Rodriguez has a history of violent behavior, according to the statement.

Officer Chris Webber located Rodriguez at a residence on James Avenue about 4:20 p.m. and took him into custody. The toddler was located safely.

Rodriguez remained in custody at El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe Tuesday afternoon, according to online booking information. It is unknown if he has an attorney.
