As the CEO for an organization representing South Lake Tahoe businesses, I’m often privy to projects going on before the word gets out, and it can be frustrating to stay quiet as I realize their potential. But, recently there have been some public announcements that have me very thrilled with the growth opportunities they present for our businesses and community, and now we can spread the news.
Vail is investing millions of dollars into our community in order to create new summer adventure opportunities at Heavenly. These activities will provide healthy outdoor experiences for families, create lifelong memories, connections to the forest and inspire environmental stewardship. Vail’s partnership with the Nature Conservancy is certain to arouse curiosity in the youth who will become tomorrow’s caretakers and guests. Add to this the reality of more full-time, year-round positions, part-time summer youth positions and construction jobs and we have cause for enthusiasm. I know you’ll be sharing this exciting news with your customers, friends and family and encouraging them to experience the adventure.
The newly formed Lakefront District has created a map for visitors highlighting the numerous dining and recreation opportunities the area affords. Businesses within the district are supporting the Live at Lakeview Concert Series thereby garnering exposure for themselves while promoting a free entertainment opportunity for residents and visitors alike. Acts like these help motivate visitors to stay longer and ultimately spend more money.
Along with the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, we recently released an informational piece entitled Stay & Play, related to traffic delays on Sundays. Rather than sit in traffic for an additional one to three hours, we’re recommending our guests stay and play awhile longer. Perhaps you will find a way to share with a visitor how to experience life like a local on a Sunday afternoon? Or perhaps your business will create a Sunday special and share the news with your partners and customers?
Through sharing community events and updates with your customers, you help extend our reputation and reach to the destination visitor. However, it can be challenging to stay apprised of all that is going on. Current updates can always be found on the calendars at tahoechamber.org or tahoesouth.com in addition to listening to our great local radio stations and reading this newspaper.
Whether you have a newsletter, Facebook Page, e-news, bulletin board, blog, Twitter account or calendar on your website, sharing what is going on in the community is never a bad idea. Alerting your customers to lodging specials, recreation and entertainment opportunities, new menu items or new products and services is proven to help strengthen their affinity to your business.
So take that leap and share the excitement of progress and the revitalization efforts happening here on the South Shore and be proud as I am to call this beautiful place home.
