U.S. Forest Service crews started a series of prescribed burns Tuesday in the Marshall Trail area near South Lake Tahoe and on the West Shore near Tahoma.
Weather permitting, Forest Service crews will burn about 10 acres per day on the west side of Tahoma. Operations there are expected to continue through the weekend.
Crews will burn about two acres per day over several days in the Marshall Trail area.
Smoke from the prescribed fire areas can be expected and is normal. All prescribed fires are monitored regularly and done in accordance with an approved burn plan.
