Douglas County Sheriff swears in new deputy

Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Sampson was sworn onto the force Monday in Minden, according to Sheriff Ron Pierini.

Sampson’s appointment follows several months of testing and evaluation, interviews, background checks and physical, psychological and medical examinations.

He will now undergo a 12-week training program for the knowledge and skills needed to perform his duty as a jail deputy.

Sampson was an explorer with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post, a volunteer auxiliary that allows young people to interact and train with sheriff’s deputies.

Sampson graduated from Silver State Charter High School and attended Western Nevada College.
