Obituary: Dallas Lee Gillaspey

Dallas Lee Gillaspey, of So. Lake Tahoe, Ca. was born on October 27, 1940 and passed away on March 1, 2014 after a short illness. He was born in Hutchinson, KS. To Dayton C. Gillaspey and Jack O Lee McGinnis. 3 years later, he received a birthday present in the form of his sister Deanna Rae Gillaspey.

He grew up playing baseball and football and attended Cherry Creek High School, where he was a member of the High Lifters car club. In 1957, he enlisted in the Navy as a radar man. He left the military a short time later on family hardship when his mother became ill. He married Vicki s Cox in 1961 and the couple settled in Concord, Ca. and a year later, he joined the CA Ironworkers Union.

Dallas and Vicki had two children and they are survived by daughter Denise Gillaspey-Llewellyn (Randy) of So. Lake Tahoe, Ca and son Kirk Gillaspey of Humble, Tx. Dallas soon became an entrepreneur with the opening of his own pool building company and later, Concord Welding. He spent plenty of time riding and racing motorcycles in these younger days until an accident almost ended his life. In 1977 he moved his family to So. Lake Tahoe where he loved to snowmobile in the winter months and went to work for Gillespie Diesel. Dallas relocated back to the Bay Area in 1980 where he rejoined the ironworkers union and in 1985 he married Diane Nimsker. He returned to Tahoe in 1999 and struck out on his own again, remodeling homes until his retirement in 2009. He was a member of the moose Lodge 1632 in Tahoe and enjoyed dinners and hanging out with the other members. Dallas is also survived by his sister, Deanna Gillaspey-Hanks (Paul) of N. Fort Myers, Fl, grandchildren Amanda Llewellyn (Mandee Fernandez) and Brandon Llewellyn of So. Lake Tahoe, Ca, great-grandchildren Isabella and Deegan Fernandez of So. Lake Tahoe, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dallas will be remembered for his love of family and great sense of humor. No memorial service is planned, but condolences can be sent to Denise Llewellyn, c/o Integrity Locksmith, 2197 Lake Tahoe Blvd. SLT, Ca. 96150.
