Roxanne Zimmelman Stewart, beloved wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, peacefully left this world on April 3, 2014 after a long brave battle with cancer with her devoted husband Tom by her side. Roxanne was born on April 25, 1956 in Glendale, Ca. to Stanford and Gloria Zimmelman. After her mother Gloria’s passing, her father “Stan” married Mary Green Prince - always known as Chickie – who became more than a step-mother, yet a friend … as did Chickie’s children.
Before moving to the Lake Tahoe area in the mid 1970s, she grew up in Panorama City in the San Fernando Valley. Roxanne graduated from Monroe High School in Sepulveda in 1973 and then went to beauty school. Roxanne was a hair dresser extraordinaire who always made sure her clients, of which many became her close friends, looked better and had a lightness of spirit after spending time with her.
Roxanne worked at Wave Makers before she and her business partner Terry Baughman opened Hot Locks Hair Design in South Lake Tahoe, Ca. which they successfully ran and managed for many years.
It was only natural that Roxanne and Tom would meet on the edge of the Lake Tahoe at the end of a boat race … which was the start of their deep and loving friendship. Roxanne felt blessed to be embraced by all of Tom’s extended family and she loved talking and hearing about how all of her nieces and nephews were growing into amazing adults.
Roxanne leaves behind her husband Tom, sister Rosanne and many extended family members and friends. Roxanne was loved by many, loved to laugh, and will be greatly missed by all.
A Celebration of Life is planned for May 4, beginning immediately at 11:30 am, at The Lodge at Tahoe Donner in Truckee, Ca. (12850 Northwoods Blvd, adjacent to the Tahoe Donner Golf Course). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tahoe Forest Hospice.
