Dan Kerr, a long-time resident of Stateline, Nevada passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, June 27, 2014 at the age of 76. He was born in Seattle, Washington and relocated to San Diego, California as a young boy after his father’s discharge from the military service. He proudly served in the Marine Corp during and in Vietnam, later obtaining his Master’s in Education and continued teaching and substituting,mainly in the Douglas County school system,well into his 70’s.
Dan was a member of the Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary since 1985, the first year that men were able to participate as members. He was acting President of the Auxiliary in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2009 and 2010. He served on the Sacramento Blood Source Blood Drive since 1979, chaired the South Lake Tahoe Community Blood Drive for 35 years and is a 26 gallon donor totaling 209 pints of life saving blood. Dan also volunteered for the Sacramento Valley Area Council of Hospital Volunteers for many years, as president or a member of the board. He joined Sons in Retirement Inc. in 2012 and was Little Sir for the Branch.
Dan is survived by his sons, Glenn, Ronald and Todd Ciganek along with his daughter, Traci Powers, his cousin, Joe Wicker and eight grandchildren.
The Memorial Service will be held on July 24, 2014, 11:00 am, at the Catholic Church he loved and served for so many years – Our Lady of Tahoe on Elks Point Road in Zephyr Cove, Nevada.
Following the service there will be a reception in the adjoining Father Bain Hall. There will be a private burial service between 1:30 – 2:00 pm that afternoon at Happy Homestead Cemetery in South Lake Tahoe. Friends and family are welcome.
