Born December 3, 1940, in Hayward, Ca. and passed away on June 24, 2014 after a short battle with lung cancer.
Karen was the only child of the late Laurence and May Correa of Hayward, Ca. She graduated from Hayward H.S. in 1957 and received her B.A. and CA. teaching credential from San Jose State in 1961.
She taught briefly in the S.F. Bay area before moving to South Lake Tahoe where she worked for Lake Tahoe Unified School District and was one of the first teachers at Meyers Elementary School when it opened in the ‘60s. She was passionate about her teaching career where she loved teaching her 1st grade students how to read and write and become excited about learning. Her organization and teaching skills led to her extreme efficiency in the classroom.
Karen lived in South Lake Tahoe for 35 years before leaving for a few years to look after her parents. She returned to her beloved Lake Tahoe this past year.
She is survived by several cousins and her long time friend, David Maderis, of South Lake Tahoe, Ca.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 21 at 10:30 a.m.
at Happy Homestead Cemetery on Johnson Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe, CA
with a luncheon reception to follow. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Karen’s name to the American Cancer Society.
