Alta Mae Doda was born February 23rd, 1920, passed away on August 16th, 2014 in South Lake Tahoe, California, at the age of ninety-four. She’d made her home in Lake Tahoe for the last fifty years. Alta Mae was born in Oklahoma to James and Londa Berry, her family left Oklahoma for Stockton, California where they lived a short few years and then moved on to Vallejo, California when her father went to work at Mare Island Naval Ship Yard.
While living in Vallejo Alta Mae met and married the love of her life Elmer “Al” Doda, their son Keith was born while still in Vallejo. During her years in Vallejo Alta Mae attended and graduated from beauty school, worked at J.C. Penney’s and even did door to door sales for Avon. In 1970 Al and Alta Mae left Vallejo for South Lake Tahoe, they along with Alta Mae’s mother and father built their dream homes in Tahoe.
Alta Mae is pre-deceased by her mother and father, James and Londa Berry; husband Al Doda; sister, Betty June Jaggers; brother, Jim Berry; and nephews, Bob Lee, Jr., Matthew Berry and Mike Jaggers. She is survived by her son, Keith Doda of El Dorado, California; a sister, Bernice Lee, ninety-eight years of age, of Yerington, Nevada; three nieces: Bonnie Berry of Colorado, Colleen Beckers of Tennessee, Diane Jaggers of Modesto, California; three nephews: James Jaggers, wife Jennifer of Fairfield, California, Tom Jaggers, wife Alice of Barstow, California, Jerry Lee and wife Sharon of Medford, Oregon, many great nieces and nephews and faithful dog Lucky, her loving and faithful pet who was forever at her side enjoying the seasons as they came and went from her beloved Lake Tahoe.
Alta Mae loved and cared dearly about family and friends, she will be missed by all of those whose lives she touched.
A graveside service will be held at Tulocay Cemetery, Coombsville Road,
Napa, California on Monday, August 25th, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.
Alta Mae will be interred alongside her husband Al, mother, father and sister.
