Jack Meiring

Jack Meiring passed away peacefully on May 16th, 2016, at the age of 80, with his wife and daughter at his side. Jack was born on July 8th, 1935, to Hugo and Elizabeth Meiring. His family moved to Reno from the Bay Area in the 1940’s, where his father was the tile contractor on the Mapes Hotel. Jack graduated from Reno High School in 1953. He served in the Nevada Air National Guard after high school. After spending some time in the tile business with his father and exploring the residential construction business in Reno, he decided to open an equipment rental business in South Lake Tahoe. Jack was a very successful businessman in the Lake Tahoe area. Moving to Tahoe in 1965, he opened Carson Tahoe Rents and soon expanded the business to three locations: South Lake Tahoe, Carson City, and Gardnerville. Another business of his for several years was renting snowmobiles at Edgewood Golf Course. Additionally, he served for many years on the board of Nevada Banking Company starting when it opened in 1982. Extremely active in the business community, he was greatly respected and liked by many in the Lake Tahoe area, not only for his business acumen but also for his clever sense of humor and fun loving nature. Jack greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He was a competitive snowmobiler, but he enjoyed tennis, golf, and hunting with his good friend Bud, as well. He especially liked being out on Lake Tahoe, entertaining friends on his boat. Jack loved living in Lake Tahoe: the beautiful views, great friendships, good conversations, and his nightly hot tub. However, during the winter he and his wife would escape to their home in Bullhead City, Arizona, enjoying a magnificent view of the Colorado River, the mountains and casino lights. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Elizabeth Meiring, his brother, Larry Meiring, his wife, Joni (Humphrey) Meiring, and his daughter, Sheri Meiring. He is survived by his wife, Delilah, his daughter, Jill (Meiring) Alley, his son-in-law, Mark Alley, his son, John Meiring, and his grandson, Austin Alley; his sister, Betty (Meiring) Issel; his stepchildren, Kirsten Glover, Tarius Macara, Karen Tilges, J.W. Najarian, Paul Najarian, and five step-grandchildren. He shared a special bond with each of his children.

Jack was laid to rest on May 24th, 2016, at Masonic Memorial Gardens in Reno. There will be a celebration of life on June 4th at 4pm. For more information please email: deemeiring@yahoo.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation at http://www.arthritis.org.
