Obituary: Charles “Chuck” Bookhammer

February 16, 1937 - March 28, 2013

Charles “Chuck” Bookhammer passed away peacefully on March 28, 2013. Chuck was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania on 2/16/37 to Clemas Rose DeMarino and George W. Bookhammer. He came to California at age 12 with his family; residing in Oakland, California. He attended Hamilton Jr. High and Castlemont High School. He worked in the grocery management business for 30 years; retiring to South Lake Tahoe from San Leandro, Calif. with his wife, Loretta, in 1987. Chuck loved fishing, bowling, long walks, riding his bike around the Al Tahoe neighborhood. Football was a passion of his. Another pastime was playing the slots at the local casinos. He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Segovia Bookhammer of 52 years. His children, Michael, ,Paul, (Christina), Chuck, (Cheryl) and Theresa, (Tom). Grandchildren: Douglas, Jesskah and Michele Bookhammer, Sophia Sampson, Keith Enderelein, Shanel Enderlein Rice and Alicia Enderlein Green. Great-Grandchildren: Skylah Irvin, Danielle and Liana Bookhammer and Brooke Rice. Predeceased by son Mark, Grandson’s Nicholas and Cole and Great-Grandson, Michael. His parents: Clemas Swartz and George Bookhammer, Stepfather, Ernest Swartz, and Brother John Bookhammer. He will be missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him for his humor and sharp wit. Services to be held at McFarlane’s Mortuary on Thursday, April 4th and Mass at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church on Lyon Ave. S.L.T. at 2:00 p.m. For further information please call McFarlane’s at 530-541-3095.
