Our sister, aunt and friend, Joyce Anne Turk Lang passed away on April 11 after a short illness. Joyce was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania on March 13, 1949 to John and Joanne Turk. She spent her early years in Pennsylvania and in 1963 her family moved to South Lake Tahoe. Joyce attended South Tahoe Middle School and was a 1967 graduate of South Tahoe High. She attended Cal Berkeley for one year and concentrated in Russian studies. She worked at Lake Tahoe Community College and at Barton Memorial Hospital for 25 years in Patient Accounts, eventually becoming Patient Accounts Manager.
Joyce moved to Gardnerville with her husband, Steve Lang, in the early 90s; they later divorced. She was step-mother to Katie Lang-Lambert of Montreaux, Switzerland and Corinne O’Donnell of Phoenix, AZ, as well as sister-in-law to Nancy Lang and Robert Lang.
Joyce raised and showed Irish Setters and later became an avid cat lover. She loved playing golf and was ready for a game anytime anyone asked. She loved to do organic gardening and was an amazing quilter who bestowed her friends and family with beautiful table linens and other beautiful art pieces. And, by everyone’s account, she made one killer burrito!
She leaves behind her brother, Jim Turk and his fiancée, Cindy; brother, Jack Turk of San Pablo, CA; her nephew, Jerrod Turk and his wife, Janet and their beautiful, Hailey Mae (born February 12, 2013); her nephew, Jon Turk and his wife, Amy and their children, Breanna and Savanna; her niece, Sasha (Chad Lundquist) of Port Angeles, WA. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Callie Ann, as well as many friends and colleagues who will miss her.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to DAWG (Douglas Animal Welfare Group) at PO Box 1850, Gardnerville, NV 89410. Final arrangements entrusted to Walton’s Funerals & Cremations Gardnerville, NV.
