Sharilyn Gaye Powell, 62, of Meridian, Idaho, formerly of South Lake Tahoe, one of the original flower children who shared an abundance of love and beauty throughout her life, rests in peace, after a long battle with illness. She passed away on April 15, 2013, at a Meridian hospital. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Cremation was under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home, Idaho.
Born May 8, 1950, in Denver, Colorado to Walter (Earl) Osborn and Opal (Cook) Osborn. Sharilyn attended high school and technical school in Denver and worked many years for Safeway in Pocatello, Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Lake Tahoe, Nevada, before returning to Idaho to care for her ailing mother. In 1997, she finally met the love of her life, “Mikey” Powell, and they were married on June 17, 2000, in Meridian at the best backyard wedding there ever was in the midst of her blooming flowers and roses.
Sharilyn loved to camp and fish with Mikey, and her grandchildren, many summer weekends found them in Crouch or Featherville chasing butterflies and laughing. The beauty Shari leaves behind is evident in her four grandbabies. Sharilyn worked as a scan coordinator for Fred Meyers until her illness forced her to retire in 2010.
Sharilyn is survived by her husband Michael Powell of Meridian, Idaho; her children Laura and husband Paul Steiner of Costa Mesa, California; Mike Wilson of Denver, Colorado; Michelle Sievers of Richfield, Idaho; her grandchildren Austin, PJ, Alexis and Peyton; her brothers Walter Osborn of Fort Collins, Colorado and Richard (Debi Lambert) Shields of Boise, Idaho; her sister Sandra Shields of Lake Tahoe, Nevada; her sis in-law Kay Shields; niece Kaci Shields of Boise, Idaho and uncle Dan and Aunt Ruth of Denver, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her mother Opal, her father Earl and stepfather Smokey.
