We are sad to announce the passing of our dear Uncle, Jim Stringer, who died at his home in Volcano, Calif. On May 12, 2013. He was 69 years young. Jim was born and raised in the South Bay area of Southern California. He went to Narbonne and Palos Verdes High School. He grew up loving to surf and skateboard, play football and baseball. He also enjoyed making ceramics and doing photography.
He traveled to Mexico on surfing adventures and introduced his sister, Jeannette, to his love of that country. In the late 60’s, Jim moved to South Lake Tahoe to learn to ski and he became a promoter of the early “free style ski movement”. Jim had many jobs over the years. He taught skiing at Heavenly, he was a card dealer at Harvey’s, He worked as a private contractor building sections of the Pacific Crest Trail, he was a firewood cutter, and he helped manage his wife’s family demolition business in the bay area. He was a hard worker and loved working out in the woods.
Jim and his wife Judy, son Jim Jr., daughter Janielle and son Jess, and their family pets lived in South Lake Tahoe until 2000 when they moved to Volcano, Ca. His son, Jim Jr., helped to build their amazing home at the 360 Degree Ranch on Grizzly Ridge.
After years of health problems, In 2000 Jim was given a new heart and was able to enjoy life for another 13 years. He got to see his grand kids be born, build his home, spend time with his extended family and friends and enjoy life.
Jim is survived by his wife, Judy, His son Jim Jr. and his family, His daughter Janielle and her family, his sister Jeannette and Brother-In-Law, Bob, His Nephew Larry and his family, and many other loving family and friends. His son, Jess, and his parents Dorothy and George preceded him in death.
In lieu of cards or flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice in Jim’s memory.
