UPDATE 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 8: The pedestrian involved in the July 4 collision at Donner Lake has died as a result of his injuries, according to a statement this afternoon from the Truckee Police Department.
The man was identified as 46-year-old Leonard Richard Whitlow of Sparks, Nev, according to Truckee Police.
TRUCKEE, Calif. — A 24-year-old local woman was intoxicated when she struck and critically injured a pedestrian while riding a bicycle minutes before the Donner Lake fireworks Thursday evening, police said.
The Truckee Police Department received a report of a collision between a bicyclist and a pedestrian on Donner Pass Road along Donner Lake at about 9:25 p.m. Thursday, according to a statement.
Officers arrived and found bystanders performing CPR on the adult male pedestrian, who was transported to Tahoe Forest Hospital and later flown to a Reno area hospital.
The man, whose name was not released, remained in critical condition with major head trauma as of Friday afternoon, according to police.
The bicyclist, Petra Bakker-Borhani, 24, of Truckee, was uninjured. Bakker-Borhani was operating the bicycle while under the influence of alcohol and was arrested at the scene, according to police. She was booked into the Nevada County Jail on DUI charges.
Witnesses reported the pedestrian may have been under the influence of alcohol as well, according to police, although that hasn’t been confirmed.
