Calvin Eugene Wheelock passed on May 4, 2013, after an extended illness, at the age of 83. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on September 10, 1929
Calvin attended Santa Monica High School, class of 1947 and graduated California State University Northridge, class of 1951. He then joined the US Navy where he served in Korea and Naval Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander.
Following active duty he joined the Boy Scouts of America as an executive. His Scouting career took him many places, including Santa Monica, CA, Chicago IL, Bettendorf, IA and Sacramento, CA. Cal enjoyed his golden years at South Lake Tahoe, CA, Hawaii, Inkom, ID and Reno, NV. His post-retirement years included work as a realtor and an author.
Additional activities and interests were the Presbyterian Church, Rotary Club, boating on the Mississippi River, the Sacramento Delta, Lake Tahoe and the Pacific Ocean. He was a hiker, camper, an adventurer and explorer. He travelled the world; Asia, New Zealand, Europe and much of the United States. He was an avid reader and remained sharp until his death.
Calvin was preceded in death by Priscilla Searight Wheelock, his “jewel of a wife”, for 52 years, his parents, Arba and Walter Wheelock and his three older sisters Dorothy, Eleanor and Katherine.
He is survived by his four children, Wendy Koeppel (Billy) of DeWitt, Iowa, Donald Wheelock (Brenda) of Inkom, Idaho, Susan Gaunt (Ron) of Mariposa, CA and Ted Wheelock of Pittsburg, CA. He is survived by 5 grandchildren (Erin Wells, Matthew, Andrew and Jonathon Wheelock and Benjamin Gaunt), sister-in-law Phyllis Sherard (Mike), nieces Alison Searight Hastert (Mike), Sharon Cortez, Mary Lou Minde, April Sherard, nephews Steve, Gary, and Ken Reynolds, and Scot Searight (Amy) plus many great nieces, nephews and friends.
Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 12:15 P.M. with full Military Honors. Please email email@example.com if you plan to attend as there is limited shade and Seating.
