On Saturday afternoon, August 31, 2013, Stephanie passed away peacefully at her home in South Lake Tahoe after a long battle with cancer.
Stephanie was born in San Diego on April 27, 1958. She was the sixth child of Ruth and Donald DeFay.
Stephanie grew up in the coastal town of Coronado, CA where she spent the majority of her childhood and teenage years before moving to Grass Valley with her parents. She graduated from Nevada Union high school in 1976. While living in the Sierra foothills Stephanie enjoyed horseback riding, trips to the Yuba River, and became an avid skier.
After high school, Stephanie moved to Alta, Utah to further pursue her love of skiing. Returning to Northern California in the 80’s, Stephanie settled into a fulfilling life in South Lake Tahoe. She became a licensed realtor and was an active member of the real estate community. Stephanie’s busy life included many things but mostly she enjoyed golf, traveling, gardening, music, and above all spending time with family and friends. Stephanie cherished her mountain home and would passionately garden away for hours creating and maintaining her magical alpine oasis, filling it with flowers and whimsical garden art.
Stephanie will forever be remembered for her contagious smile, compassionate heart, and love of family and friends.
Stephanie was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Donald DeFay, her uncle Bob (Vessey), brothers Paul and Donald and cousin Bobby.
