Eugene A (Gene) Rose Jr. died unexpectedly on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at home. Gene was born in Buffalo, New York on July 25, 1936 to Eugene A Rose Sr. and Doris M. Hoare. He graduated from Kensington High in 1955. Gene served in the Armed Forces from 1955 to 1958.
After an Honorable Discharge, Gene joined the Buffalo Fire Department from 1959 to 1964. On January 23, 1965 he married his wife of 49 years, Ann Marie (Sini) Rose and decided he wanted to move out west and live in the mountains. They have two daughters, Claire M. Rose of Portland, Oregon and Laura A. Rose (Hanns) Bowers of Seattle, Washington. Gene was a devoted husband and adored his daughters.
After moving to Lake Tahoe, Gene had a long gaming career with Harvey’s Resort Hotel as a pit supervisor and General Manager of Harvey’s Inn. Gene ended his gaming career in the Harvey’s Poker Room. He loved fly fishing, working on restoring his 1939 Ford Sedan and his dogs “Roscoe” and “Tucker.” On Wednesdays, Gene volunteered with the Sierra Community Church Food Line.
Gene is survived by his wife, his two daughters, brother Terrance Rose (Marianne) of Derby, New York, Joanna Feldman (Bernard) of Angola, New York and the late Patricia Leary (Tim) of Michigan City, Indiana. He was a loving uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and had many close friendships in Lake Tahoe and his hometown of Buffalo.
