South Tahoe’s Lady Vikings played their last home game of the season Saturday with a 55-37 league win over Fernley.
The Lady Vikings took a slim 13-12 first quarter lead. They went on a strong offensive run in the second with baskets by Hannah Neiger, Kaila Griffis, Ally King and Grace Bronken and had a 25-17 lead at halftime.
“We took care of the ball and created a lot of opportunities with our defense,” South Tahoe coach Michael Neiger said. “I’m very proud of all our seniors and it was nice to have a big crowd out there.”
It was the last home game for five South Tahoe seniors: Kaila Griffis, Riley Chapman, Grace Bronken, Shelly Leonard and Hannah Neiger.
Fernley fought back to within six points of South Tahoe in the third quarter, but the Lady Vikings responded with a string unanswered baskets to boost their lead back up to 11.
South Tahoe held Fernley to just two baskets in the fourth quarter, closing out the game with a 7-0 run.
Kaila Griffis led South Tahoe in scoring with 13 points. Hannah Neiger scored 10, Jordyn Dion scored nine, Ally King scored eight, Riley Chapman scored five, Grace Bronken scored four and Andi Jo Embry and Shelly Leonard each scored two.
With the win, South Tahoe improves to 7-14, 6-8 IA Northern. The team closes its season out with road games at Sparks and Fallon.
