9.5-mile, East Shore run set for Saturday

Trail runners will hit the East Shore this weekend for a 9.5-mile scenic run. The 39th Annual Ponderosa Ridge Run starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Spooner Summit Maintenance Station. This is a 9.5-mile trek across the mountain tops from Spooner Summit to Tahoe Rim Trail near Kingsbury Grade. The fire access road starts at Spooner Summit and climbs nearly 2,000 feet in the first 4.5 miles to its summit near Genoa Peak. The route is no easy chore, to be certain, but the view makes it worthwhile. All racers will receive survivor ribbons and cold drinks at the finish. Runners should be prepared for steep climbs and no aid stations. There is no pre-race registration, but a $2 donation is encouraged to help fund the event. For more information call Austin Angell at 530-541-5224.
