The first-year soccer players all got a good look on Thursday.
The Whittell boys soccer team defeated Squaw Valley Academy 14-0 in a non-league home game. In the second half, the first-year players took the team home.
Once the starters had notched six goals they all came out. The last quarter belonged to the new guys.
“We’re going to need that depth and they were out there working on it,” head coach Timothy Plummer said.
The 14 goals were a bit excessive, Plummer said, but slowing down players who don’t usually get a ton of playing time was tough.
Regardless, it was a good chance for the newer players to get some experience, and Plummer liked what he saw.
Their fundamentals have improved tremendously across the board as evident with the eight additional goals.
