The Whittell High School boys soccer team defeated Yerington 9-1 in its last regular season game on Saturday.
R.J. Rupp scored three goals; Mark Waite, two; and Charles Jurzenski, Spenser Buchholtz, Dillon Stetler and Bryce Bronken each scored one.
All five seniors who played scored a goal in the game, which took place on senior day,
The team finished the regular season 21-3 (9-3) in league as the No. 2 seed. They will play third-seeded North Tahoe in the first round of playoffs on Friday at Incline at 2 p.m. The winner will advance to play for first place in Zone on Saturday at Incline at 4 p.m. The losing team will fight for the third and final seed from the north on Saturday at Incline at noon. The State Finals will take place Nov. 15 and 16 at Fernley High School.
“There is some amazing talent on this team, some of the best soccer players in this area,” coach Timothy Plummer stated in an email. “Our focus this season has been to develop into a complete team that plays together well, and we have made great progress! Our goal is to win State, but our attention is on beating North Tahoe this Friday to advance to the Finals!”
