550-site campground proposed on Tahoe Ridge

TAHOE VISTA, Calif. (AP) — A pair of developers is proposing a 550-site campsite atop Tahoe Ridge that, if approved, would be the first new campsite in the Lake Tahoe Basin in more than 20 years.

Sierra Pacific Industries and Mountainside Partners are planning to submit an application for land owned by SPI to be developed as the Brockway Campground.

There are currently 18 campgrounds in the Lake Tahoe Basin, with very few at the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.

The Brockway Campground would include a mix of tent sites and prefabricated shelters as well as a swimming pool, a dining area, pavilions and a general store.

The seasonal campground would need approval by Placer County and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, but it is an approved use of land under existing zoning.
