Woodacre man dies in single-vehicle crash on Highway 88 near South Lake Tahoe

A 62-year-old man is dead following a collision Sunday night on California Route 88 outside of South Lake Tahoe.

The man, a Woodacre, California resident who has not been identified, was traveling westbound on California Route 88 in a 2001 BMW at an unknown speed just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday, according to California Highway Patrol. At the time he was west of the Carson River Bridge.

While maneuvering through a slight left hand turn, the man drifted onto the north shoulder. He then over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle.

The BMW went off the road and collided with a raised embankment before overturning on the north edge of the highway. He was pronounced dead prior to CHP’s arrival on the scene.

According to the report, the man was not using safety equipment. Weather conditions at the time were described as “clear and dry.”

Alcohol impairment is unknown and pending a toxicology report.
