South Shore welcomes a number of renowned blues musicians this weekend as The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Elvin Bishop’s Big Fun Trio take a stage in Stateline.

“For over 30 years, The Fabulous Thunderbirds have been the quintessential American band. The group’s distinctive and powerful sound, influenced by a diversity of musical styles, manifested itself into a unique musical hybrid via such barnburners as ‘Tuff Enuff’ and ‘Wrap It Up,’” states MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa’s website.

The band is joined by special guests Elvin Bishop’s Big Fun Trio, which includes Bishop, guitarist and pianist Bob Welsh and percussionist and vocalist Willy Jordan.

“In a trio, there’s no place to hide. You need to be totally into it all the time and you got to have the right guys. The combination of the three of us clicked big time.

“We went out and played a couple of gigs, and it was really cool to see how the people reacted to the goin’-for-it feel of the music,” said Bishop.

He, Welsh and Jordan released an album in February earlier this year named after the trio.

“With ‘Elvin Bishop’s Big Fun Trio,’ Bishop confidently debuts his new — yet satisfyingly familiar — sound, ready to share the group’s happy-go-lucky vibe with listeners near and far. The trio’s instrumental, vocal and songwriting talents guarantee a boisterous good time,” states a press release from Alligator Records.

Tickets for the blues rock gig range from $25-$45, plus tax and fees, and are available online at http://www.montbleuresort.com.

The show begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14. MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa is located at 55 U.S. 50 in Stateline.
