It’s time to strap on the snowshoes — the second installment of Camp Richardson Resort’s 2017 cocktail races is headed to South Shore on Saturday, Feb. 18. The series began one month ago, inviting competitors of all experience levels to grab a tray of cocktails and make their way through an obstacle course.

The fun, which is free to participate in, begins with sign-ups at 5 p.m. before the races start at 7 p.m.

“A favorite with visitors and locals, racers, cocktail trays in hand, navigate through obstacles, and up and down the beach. The winner is the fastest and cleanest — no spilling allowed — at the finish.

“Racers will run, knees up, kicking snow with their snowshoes while balancing a tray full of drinks, hoping to be the fastest without spilling,” states a press release from Camp Richardson Resort.

Contestants have the chance to win prizes such as snowshoes, equipment, marina rentals and dining certificates. The sponsors include Action Watersports, Round Hill Pines Beach Resort and Camp Richardson.

“Other destinations have races, but nothing comes close to this three-part race series held on the beach in front of The Beacon Bar and Grill,” continues the release.

After the amount of precipitation the Tahoe Basin has received in the past month, the environment is in perfect condition and competition is sure to be fierce.

Can’t make it Saturday? Don’t worry — the cocktail races return to The Beacon Bar and Grill on March 18. Additional information is available online at

Camp Richardson Resort is located at 1900 Jameson Beach Road in South Lake Tahoe.
