The joys of bicycling at Lake Tahoe will be celebrated at a free event this Saturday, June 18.

Cycle Celebration takes place from noon to 4 p.m. at the newly constructed Bijou Bike Park in South Lake Tahoe.

“Activities include a beer garden sponsored by Cold Water Brewery, bike valet, raffle drawings, announcement of the bike challenge winners, LTBC achievement awards, community booths, demo with South Shore BMX, bike park skills development with Pete Fink, tire-changing contest, turtle race kid zone, art contest winner announcement [and] food provided by Kiwanis BBQ,” according to Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition.

The bike park was completed last year and is designed for bicyclists of all ages and abilities. It includes three progressive slopestyle lines featuring man-made jumps, natural jumps, ramps and features, large and small pump tracks, a BMX track and loop trail. Some features of the bike park are currently undergoing maintenance.

“We will be announcing recipients of our Bicycle Achievement Awards and awarding winners of the Bicycle Challenge,” according to a Wednesday Facebook post from the bike coalition. “Bike the West will have its Infamous ‘Spin to Win’ Wheel of Fun and will be giving away a lot of swag. See you then.”

Bijou Bike Park is located at 1301 Al Tahoe Blvd. inside Bijou Community Park. More information on Saturday’s event is available at http://www.tahoebike.org.
