A five-time Grammy Award winner is set to take the stage at Harveys Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena this summer, and an old-timey act with a dedicated following at the South Shore will play Harrah’s Lake Tahoe this winter, according to show announcements this week.

Lionel Richie plays the Harveys Outdoor Arena Saturday, Aug. 13, and the Devil Makes Three performs Thursday, Dec. 29, in the Harrah’s South Shore Room.

Richie began his musical career as a member of the Commodores and had 13 Top 10 hits, including nine No. 1 singles, between 1981 and 1987 as a solo artist.

“The first was, ‘Endless Love,’ a ballad that he wrote and sang as a duet with his dear friend, Miss Diana Ross. Afterwards came the success of ‘Truly,’ ‘All Night Long,’ ‘Hello,’ and ‘Say You (Say Me)’ for which he won his Oscar and a Golden Globe,” according to his online biography. “His 1982 self-titled album established a run of platinum plus albums throughout the 80s, with 1986’s ‘Dancing On The Ceiling’ becoming a pop and R&B classic. He also found time to co-write with Michael Jackson what eventually would become pop’s most famous anthem, the Live-Aid tune ‘We Are The World.’”

Richie’s Lake Tahoe show is one of three dates he has scheduled between the end of a European tour and 10 September dates at The Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. Richie headlines the final day of the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park Aug. 7 and plays Youngstown, Ohio, Aug. 27.

The Devil Makes Three has announced it will return to Lake Tahoe’s South Shore this winter, bringing a new album to Harrah’s Thursday, Dec. 29.

The three-piece old-timey Americana act is set to release an album of cover songs, “Redemption & Ruin,” Aug. 26.

“‘Redemption & Ruin’ has two distinct sides; it’s half gospel songs with a proclivity towards the darker end of the spectrum of religious music (Redemption) and half songs of vice (Ruin),” according to an announcement for the album. “In a very strict sense, the band-members were looking for songs which fully and wholeheartedly fit in one of those two categories. There could be no in between; it was all or nothing. ‘Drunken Hearted Man’ is the first ‘ruin’ debut and a new spin on the original by blues ghost Robert Johnson.

“The band selected songs written by the heroes: TDM3 wanted to give fans and new friends a look at their inspiration when creating original material. These are covers, with the full TDM3 treatment, but the writers of each of the covers were selected with purpose.”
