An West African musician will kick off this summer’s Live at Lakeview music series this week.

World and Afro-fusion artist Paa Kow headlines the first of the concerts at Lakeview Commons Thursday, June 23.

“Hailing from Ghana, Paa Kow has become wildly recognized as one of the most remarkable drum set players to tour Africa, Europe and America,” according to a press release for the show. “Paa Kow’s deep groove and prodigious talent reveal a unique ability to speak to listeners with his drums inspiring a deeply spiritual conversation. His songs are captivating and danceable and incorporate lyrics in his native language, Fante, as well as English. Paa Kow’s vision is to spread the music and culture of his homeland by touring the world with his Afro-Fusion orchestra.”

Drop Theory, a Truckee-based funk band, will open up the show at 4:30 p.m.

Live at Lakeview runs every Thursday through Aug. 25 and includes art on the beach, a variety of local merchants, food, beer, views of Lake Tahoe and amphitheater-style seating.

Parking near the venue is limited around and additional parking is available at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center at 1601 Rufus Allen Blvd. A complimentary bike valet service is offered every week and biking and carpooling is strongly encouraged.
