Four-member singer-songwriter band The Haymarket Squares are set to play on Tahoe’s North Shore for the first time.

“Blending acoustic instruments, fast tempos, rich harmonies and rabble-rousing lyrics, The Haymarket Squares have been bringing punkgrass to audiences since 2009,” states the band’s biography.

Since the group’s debut album, “Punkgrass for the People,” they have released three more full-length records, the latest of which, “Light It Up,” dropped in February 2016.

“It’s a 12-song summation of the band’s musical influences and lyrical concerns, with tasty dollops of polka, gospel and Latin percussion mixed into the group’s signature punkgrass sound,” continues the bio.

“Light It Up” features songs such as “Heaven,” “Horrible Inventions” and “Let’s Start A Riot.”

“While recalling choirs and chapels, ‘Heaven,’ the album’s gospel-tinged opener, dismisses the idea of divine help and optimistically asserts the power of ordinary humans,” states the biography.

The Haymarket Squares perform in the Crystal Bay Club Casino Red Room on Friday, April 14. The gig is free to attend and begins at 10 p.m.

Crystal Bay Casino is located at 14 NV 28.
