Tahoe’s climbing community has formed a new group to focus advocacy efforts — and they’re kicking things off in awesome fashion.
The newly created Tahoe Climbing Coalition is hosting its launch party Saturday, May 4, at South Lake Brewing Company — one of Tahoe’s finest local breweries.
“Get involved in the Tahoe climbing community to help protect our climbing areas by becoming a TCC member,” states a flyer for the event. “Your membership donation will go to our mission of improving and protecting climbing in Lake Tahoe through stewardship and mentorship.”
As Michael Habicht, the coalition’s inaugural president, told the Tahoe Tribune, the group hopes to take Tahoe to the top of the climbing destination map.
“We are looking forward to improving climbing in Lake Tahoe, working with the local land managers and maintaining a world class climbing destination for future generations.”
Saturday’s party, which gets underway at 6 p.m., will feature a membership drive, silent auction and pull-up competition. Swag will be available, and South Lake Brewing Company will have two food vendors on location: The Oven and Chicken in a Barrel.
Ethan Pringle, a world renowned climber, will present a slideshow detailing his expedition to Greenland.
Memberships are available for $20, $40 and $60 — and those who sign up on Saturday will receive $1 off each beer.
