Tahoe Rim Trail Association will celebrate National Trails Day with an event near Lake Tahoe’s East Shore.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 4, at Spooner Lake, Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park.
“This year’s event will highlight our health and wellness program, the Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge,” according to Tahoe Rim Trail Association. “The public is welcome to join us as we kick off the summer trail season and our popular Trail Challenge program. The morning will be dedicated to celebrating trails and educating our Reno-Tahoe communities about active living, the great outdoors and our world-renowned 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail.
“The event is free and open to the public and will include access to nearby trails, educational talks, sponsor and partner booths, free gear demos, Leave No Trace activities, sustainable giveaways and pictures with our trail mascot McLeod the Marmot.”
The Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge encourages people to discover six locations along the Rim Trail over the course of the year. The challenge includes the option of 2-6 mile or 6-12 mile treks.
“The six challenge sites TRTA has chosen for the year have something unique to offer you, the outdoor enthusiast,” according to the Rim Trail Association. “Each year you’ll discover sites which hail blue alpine lakes, historic sites from the Comstock Era, lush wildflower meadows, gushing waterfalls, unique geological formations, inspiring 360-degree views of Lake Tahoe and so much more!”
Spooner Lake is located at the intersection of State Route 28 and U.S. Highway 50.
