Ten straight days of car shows at the South Shore kick off this Friday when “Lake Tahoe’s Cool Answer to Hot August” returns to South Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Village.

Hot Tahoe Cruisin’ begins at 9 a.m. Friday and continues all day with a car show that includes gas money giveaways, a “Cool Car Cruize” and a People’s Choice Award.

From there, car shows take place each day until Aug. 9. The shows on Saturday, Aug. 1, and Saturday, Aug. 8, are also set to include poker walks, $40 judging and sponsor picks for 25 trophies.

The event is sponsored by Good Sam Safe Ride, which provides rides home and promotes the use of designated drivers and seat belts as the best defenses against the dangers drunken driving.

This year, the organization will raffle off a 1957 Chevrolet pickup truck, a 1960 scooter and a 1963 camper as part of its fundraising efforts. Raffle tickets start at $5 each and participants do not need to be present to win when the winner is selected later this year.

More information on Hot Tahoe Cruisin’ is available by calling 530-541-7300.

Although the annual Hot August Nights car shows and events have had a Lake Tahoe component in the past, no Tahoe events are scheduled this year. Hot August nights takes place in the Reno/Sparks area Aug. 4-9.
