Funk group The Motet visits North Shore twice this weekend, giving Tahoe partygoers two chances to groove and dance the night away.
“The brilliance of The Motet is that they do not mimic bands of the past, but rather create new, authentic sounds in a language from the past,” states a release from 7S Management, which continues: “No matter how you choose to express funk, you can’t fake it — and you sure as hell can’t play it — if you don’t know where to find it.”
The Motet found the funk through dissecting past artists’ work and putting on Halloween-themed funk cover shows for a number of years.
“Preparing for these shows are intense, and we take it very seriously. Each year it gives us an incredible opportunity to not just learn, but to understand, the art of funk — both as individual players and as a band,” states drummer Dave Watts.
The Motet has come a long way since its foundation in 1998. The band began performing gigs in its hometown of Denver, Colorado, and gradually progressed to larger venues.
“The Motet took their infectious dance parties on the road about three years ago, and their national fan base has been growing exponentially ever since,” continues the release.
Don’t miss your chance to see this funk group perform live in the basin this weekend. Shows are held at Crystal Bay Casino on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17-18, at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the show.
Guests must be at least 21 years of age in order to attend.
